About the Book

This book aims to provide a quick review of MATLAB commands and teach the programming principals in a concise way. However, it is an excellent companion to practice and learn how to use MATLAB to solve Mechanical Engineering problems. It is developed to improve the programming skills of students and engineers and teach them how to use MATLAB for everyday engineering problems at school and at work.
This book focuses on not only solid mechanics problems (statics, dynamics, vibrations, dynamics of machines, strength of materials, engineering materials, composites, etc) but also on thermal sciences problems (thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc).

Loved this book! It is one of the few that I went ahead and bought instead of renting, simply because of how useful the examples are. I am about to take another class in MATLAB, and know that I will be able to keep using this book for tons of great references and problems. I also lent it to a friend for his MATLAB course, and he loved it too!

I bought this book for my MATLAB course and it’s really helped me. It was extremely useful in my linear algebra class, and I was able to use the book to help me apply MATLAB to GUI problems as well as higher level subjects like the Brayton cycle in thermodynamics.

This was a great textbook! I found it very helpful and useful to the course itself. It is one of the few textbooks that I think does a really good job of explaining everything that you need to know about MatLab. It is very comprehensive, and is easy to follow along and understand each step when trying to do something in MatLab. It is one of the best textbooks I’ve probably ever used. I had the pleasure of having the professor who wrote this textbook teach my class, and it was a great experience. I would recommend this textbook to anyone trying to learn anything about MatLab or who needed a refresher on the program.

I purchased this textbook for my MatLab class, but it has so much more to offer! I will be using this textbook for many courses in the future. It lays a firm foundation to MatLab and uses intuitive examples to introduce countless concepts that are practical far beyond classwork.

This is a fantastic textbook! It clearly explains MATLAB, and provides dynamic examples (to experiment with within MATLAB) so that the reader experientially comprehends the material.

Very useful resource, not only for the introductory level course, but 3&4000 level engineering courses; I referred to the book several times for Aerodynamics and Vibrations/Controls Lab, mostly for making plots.

I found the layout of the book to be well-planned, as you’re able to start learning-by-doing immediately using fundamental commands and functions with plenty of ‘FYI’ or ‘here’s another way to do it’ things thrown in along the way. There are several tables throughout the book as well as a good index I use often; the pages are flagged with sticky notes and I find it quicker than trying to filter through the weeds of an internet search.

This book was very helpful, not just for the MATLAB course at KSU. I bought this book my second year and I am still using it now, in my fifth year. Detailed examples are one of the best ways that I learn and there were so many of them that I felt like I truly understood what was going on. Even with no prior programming experience, I feel that I was able to use MATLAB for all the functions that it has to offer. Very well written and I highly recommend
